Quickbooks Simple Start Small Business Accounting Software is an excellent choice for first time QuickBooks users, those just starting in small business and existing businesses with very simple structures. QuickBooks Simple Start has some low cost add-ons to specialize the software.

The small business accounting features in QuickBooks Simple Start provide essential accounting tools while leaving out more advanced features that can be confusing or unnecessary for small businesses. QuickBooks Simple Start is easy to learn and easy to use, and is an ideal long-term solution for sole proprietors and many other very small business set-ups. QuickBooks Simple Start is a free download, service add-ons can be purchased and upgrading to a fully-featured QuickBooks version when the business grows is easy to do.

QuickBooks Simple Start takes less time to use than spreadsheets or pencil and paper accounting. Data is entered once, accounting reports require a few clicks of a mouse, and small business tax information is automatically organized.

Each time you open QuickBooks Simple Start, the Home Page guides you through initiating small business accounting transactions. The Home Page provides a visual representation of a small business transaction cycle to make it easy to find the type of transaction you need to enter:

• Your Business: customers, vendors, bank accounts and profit and loss.
• Money Out: expenses, refunds, checks.

You will also see 'Get Started Now' on the Home Page. This tells you what to do first and has quick links to tutorials and support.

Drawbacks of QuickBooks Simple Start

• QuickBooks Simple Start does not have features for managing inventory and does not download transactions, so manual data entry is required.
• QuickBooks Simple Start does not work with Microsoft Excel, you will need to use Quickbooks Pro or higher for this kind of integration.
• Data from more powerful versions of QuickBooks is not backwards compatible and will not transfer to QuickBooks Simple Start (you can transfer data from QuickBooks Simple Start to QuickBooks).

While QuickBooks Simple Start requires no specific accounting knowledge, talk to an accountant about setting up your company information and reviewing records on a regular basis. Small business accounting software saves time and can reduce the need for an accountant, but nothing replaces an accountant for serious entrepreneurs.

QuickBooks Simple Start has a good feature set for most small business start-ups and many existing small businesses.
