Antivirus Antispam
OK, let's be real, virus's and spam are a real problem any time you log on to your computer through a network, the internet, or even just at home. But did you realize that these viruses could also affect your lifestyle and peace even through many Antivirus programs.
It's important that you understand that a virus is not just malicious, but also can affect your personal identity. Identity theft is big business and programmers can make a lot of money buy producing a virus program that not only affects the performance of your computer, but also manages to steal your identity.
When it comes to your identity, it means your personal information. Things such as your SS#, your personal address, your driver's license number and other bits of information all make up your personal identity. Once stolen, your identity is then used for a wide assortment of purposes.
This means that someone has enough information about you to not only steal your identity but set you up with an alternate identity as well. They will give you a new address, change your work and income information, use your credit report and change information there, and of course, use that information to get new credit cards, or perhaps even to get a mortgage or sell a home to receive the cash themselves even though they didn't own the home.
This is why it's important to understand that a computer virus is not just to steal your computer resources and send out spam email anymore. You're going to need a complete antivirus program that doesn't just block certain virus's but also stays up to date on what the virus programmers are going to do next.
Often, you'll notice that any antivirus and antispam program you have, will ask you to update or offer regular updating automatically. This is an important step in your virus program. If you do not update regularly, the virus programmers will find a way around your antivirus program and attach or attack your computer.
Make sure you're up to date on the latest virus programs, research before purchasing any antivirus program, make sure you constantly update it or set automatic scheduling and make sure it's a company that you can trust.
While those who are a bit computer savvy can use open source products, it's best if you're a novice, or not an IT specialist that you go with a trusted company that has been in the antivirus programming world for some time. Just like a flu virus or a cold virus mutates, so do the computer viruses and while many open source programs do very well, you'll want a trusted source that keeps up with any mutating virus.
Make sure your computer is fully protected against virus and anti-spamware programs, and remember, it's not just about malicious programming and stealing your resources anymore.
