The next step is to connect a laptop running Windows 7 to the desktop via an Ethernet cable; select the New button under the application's Connection header, and then select Automatically Detect from Network.  Enter the user name and password of the main computer and you're done.  When you are connected to the host machine from the remote PC you will be prompted to login using the host machine's user name and password, and, when setup is complete, you are greeted by the PCsync home screen, split into 2, showing both systems' file structures; the tree structure will be recognized by anyone who's made use of Windows Explorer, and navigation is easy.  Connection is also possible via USB, but you will need a Type A Male to Type A Male cable, less common than the Type A to Type B; as well as wirelessly, after inputting the remote system's IP address.  Laplink retails a USB 2.0 cable, non bundled and Laplink branded, for $39.99.
File transfer and synchronization is as easy as dragging and dropping files and folders from one part of the window onto the other: a new folder, 5MB, which contained photographs captured with an average digital camera, synced to the host computer in less than 10 seconds via the USB connection.  Moving information to one of the computers while deleting it in the other is as simple as keeping the Shift key depressed whilst dragging.
The application is also able to mechanically synchronize the contents of 2 folders placed on the either the same or different computers, with the former situation being handy in situations where you are busy working on a project and wish to share the information with a colleague.  Locate and select New, which is beneath the Synchronization Jobs header, and you will then choose a folder on both the host and remote machines, click the Next button, and define your synchronization options.  These options allow you to set up a 2 way sync, from the host machine to the remote, or vice versa.  You are also able to choose the way you want to resolve conflicting file names: skipping, which will bypass the sync, or overwriting, which will replace the file with the same name with the new one, among others.
PCsync 6 is a lot more streamlined than SugarSync, which retails from $4.99 to $49.  SugarSync is a cloud based program available for both the Mac OS X and Windows, and charges $2.49 each month for 10GB of storage, and PCsync lacks its file versioning ability, which allows the use to restore older versions of file.  You can get around this problem by simply making use of backup software with inbuilt file versioning however.

This application is affordable and beneficial for those wishing to accomplish the tasks it promises to deliver, while it is regrettable that it is not compatible for Mac to Mac transfers, or mobile access, like Dropbox, retailing at between $4.99 and $49, or SugarSync.  These features would put it in the must have category, but it is still a value for money program to organize your data, and it is as solid and flexible as one would want this type of software to be.

Performing a Disk Cleanup can keep your Windows environment clean and running efficiently by deleting files that are no longer in use by you or the computer. Although it's possible to keep individual tabs on the files the Disk Cleanup utility targets, it's far easier to use this utility on a regular basis to identify and delete the files at the same time. Using Disk Cleanup won't necessarily speed up your computer, but if temporary files are piling up beyond reasonable levels, this utility will help to address potential problems caused by their presence.

Effects of Temporary and Deleted Files
Like most computer users, you likely don't have the time or patience to constantly inspect your hard drive for files that can or should be deleted. But Windows has a knack for accumulating files over time that the Operating System no longer requires. For example, when you install software, Windows often places certain files in a temporary location with the intention of deleting those files when you reboot your computer or at another specified time. Occasionally, Windows fails to delete those files, in turn consuming hard drive space and creating conflicts with other system components. Files can also accumulate on your hard drive when you delete them. When you delete files, they are sent to the Recycle Bin, where they remain until you empty it or use Disk Cleanup. Like temporary files, it's easy to overlook the presence of files in the Recycle Bin, and those files can accumulate to massive storage levels over time.

Benefits
The most immediate benefit of using Disk Cleanup is freeing valuable hard drive storage space. Modern hard drives offer plenty of storage, but this entices users to store massive files, including video and other media-related content. Deleting those files will not free up hard drive space until you empty the Recycle Bin or use Disk Cleanup. Likewise, temporary files (including temporary Internet files) can balloon to sizes in the hundreds of megabytes or more, potentially decreasing Windows' ability to perform efficiently.

Usage
With Disk Cleanup, Microsoft created a tool that's simple and fast to use. The interface lets you select the type of files to delete, including temporary Internet files, files in the Recycle Bin, standard temporary files and others. When you select the files you want to delete, Disk Cleanup also shows you the amount of disk space you will gain after the utility deletes the files.

Considerations
Using Disk Cleanup is not the last word in deleting temporary and other unused files from your system. This utility is unable to determine whether files residing on your Windows Desktop or in your personal folders are useful to you, so it's up to you to occasionally scour your folders to identify potential candidates for deletion. Disk Cleanup also deletes temporary Internet files used only by Internet Explorer. If you use another browser, be sure to use that browser's tools for deleting temporary files.

Before selecting every deletion category in Disk Cleanup, carefully inspect the categories to ensure you're not deleting files you might need.

Delete Restore Points
If you configured the system restore feature to create restore points regularly, you might not realize these are eating plenty of hard drive space. You can use Disk Cleanup to easily remove restore points you no longer need. When using this option, Disk Cleanup will ask if you'd like to delete all but the most recent restore point. If your system runs without problems, this is generally a safe action to take.

Norton is such a well known name when it comes to computer care that many users purchase their products without looking at alternatives. Of course, there’s a downside to everything and this Norton product is no exception. Perhaps the biggest downside to using popular brand name products is their tendency to take the easiest path when programming. For instance, with each new release of the Windows Operating System, new functions are added. This has the advantage of allowing programs to perform complex tasks easily. On the downside, however, it means that programs designed for one version of Windows will not necessarily run on a previous version. Smaller developers and open source developments often use only core functions, allowing programs to run on multiple versions of Windows.

For anyone using a Windows Operating System that came out before Windows XP, Norton Utilities will not work. Another downside is that the product requires that you have an Internet connection in order to use it. Other than that, the requirements for running this program are nothing that modern computers cannot handle, requiring merely a 300 MHz processor and 256 MB of RAM.

If the bad points to this product were the only thing it suffered from, it would still be a great product. Unfortunately, there are some points that are just so wrong that they must be called “ugly”.

The biggest of these ugly points is that the system monitoring tools are usually activated by default. These monitoring tools, while they can add to security, can slow down a computer tremendously.

If you prefer having all of your tools in the same place, the Norton Utilities suite definitely gives you everything that you need to maintain your system performance.

In today’s age of mass software, shareware and freeware, it’s easy to get a lot of programs on your PC that you no longer need. But it’s not as easy uninstalling those programs at times. Don’t you hate it when you think you’ve uninstalled a program only to still see it show up in your program/applications list? Deleting doesn’t work, uninstalling it via Windows doesn’t work, nothing does! It can be very frustrating.

Well, I decided to try the perfect uninstaller which claims to make uninstalling software the easiest it can be. They also claim to do other things which you’ll see below. So, here we go!

To begin, I wanted to test this software on the slowest PC that I have (2001 Dell with hardly any RAM and running Windows XP) to gauge if this software truly worked on the slowest of machines.

Once you’ve downloaded Perfect Uninstaller, you can try out their free demo or register a full edition copy for $34.95. Perfect Uninstaller says their software can uninstall/remove any unwanted applications on your PC, forcibly remove unwanted programs that can’t be uninstalled completely by other means, clear registry entries and drivers that applications typically leave on your computer and completely remove Adobe Reader, McAfee, AOL Toolbar, AVG Anti-virus and Norton 2006/2007 that are much more difficult for a standard PC user to uninstall.

I’ve had the pleasure of using other uninstaller applications, but most of them do not include a Windows registry clean and fix as well. I’ve found this software to be fantastic and would recommend any PC user to have this in his/her arsenal. Considering this software has a free demo for you to try, you can’t go wrong with at least trying it. If you have some major issues uninstalling software, or simply install and uninstall tons of software, the Perfect Uninstaller is definitely worth it.
